New Wall Hanging

Happy New Year! I hope you had a fabulous Christmas.

My first make of 2020 is a wall hanging which can be found in Pat Bravo's Legendary Look Book from Art Gallery Fabrics. Click on the picture below, which is an online magazine, and you will see all the gorgeous fabrics in the Legendary range, which I have some of on my website.

 Legendary by Pat bravo

The link for the free pattern is on page 16. I have used the fabrics I have in stock to make the smallest wall hanging. There are some fantastic ideas in the magazine, some are free patterns which you can download by clicking on the link, and some direct you to other websites where you can buy the patterns. I really love this idea from Art Gallery, the magazines are full of inspiration and interviews with the designers about their collections, it gives a bit of insight into their passions.

This is my take on the smallest wall hanging in the magazine, using just 4 fabrics instead of the 5 listed on the pattern and I think it works quite well. If you're thinking of making one then I would love to see it on my Facebook page, you can share your creations here.

Fabric Drawstring Bag

This is a make for my sister-in-law for Christmas. It was a very easy and quick make and I can see more of these in my life! It would be great as a wash bag if lined with a waterproof fabric, and it's not too big, finished size is approx 7"w x 4"d x12"h.

If you have looked at my website you may recognise the fabrics I have used to make this bag, they are featured in the photos of the Fabulous subscription boxes as samples. They are all from Art Gallery Fabrics - Aura by Mr Domestic.

I found the free tutorial on the blog, Threading My Way, the instructions and materials can be found here.

Review of 241 Tote Bag by Noodlehead

I have just finished the 241 Tote Bag from Noodlehead, and here it is! I've used the fabrics which were in last month's subscription boxes, from Art Gallery Fabrics, beautiful soft cottons in lovely vibrant colours.

 AGF - Meadow Bold

 AGF - Femme Metale

  AGF - Oval Elements

 241 Tote Pattern

The pattern pack includes all the paper pieces for you to cut out, the cutting layout, list of materials needed and the sewing instructions. It's suitable for advanced beginner/intermediate, which I would agree with.

These are the exterior pieces cut out so I could get a rough idea of how they would go together, I love the colours!

There are two options to make, one with exterior pockets which is the one I opted for, and the other also has zippered exterior slash pockets. These are the exterior pockets, although they look a bit like slippers!😄

I used the Oval Elements for the lining along with the Femme Metale for the slip pocket. The lining is made using the same pattern pieces as the exterior.

The finished exterior of the bag with the side pockets.

I used Scanfil Polyester Thread to sew the bag and for the top stitching. I have always been a fan of Gutermann threads, but these are now my favourite! Normally I would use a different thread for topstitching to make it a bit more obvious but the Scanfil was excellent for both, and it has a slight sheen which gives a lovely finish. Buy it here on my website!

And the finished bag!

And being modelled by my friend Hazel!

This is a quick make and showcases your favourite fabrics beautifully! You can purchase the pattern now on my website.

Welcome to the Fabulous Sewing! Blog

I have loved sewing since I was 11 years old when I was given a sewing machine by my Great Aunt Grace, and she and my Granny introduced me to their fabric stashes! The colours and designs of the fabrics really inspired me, and in those days they bought in bulk from textile mills in the UK.
My sewing history started with making clothes for my Sindy doll, then to making clothes for myself. I've made patchwork quilts, handbags and purses and plenty of sewn gifts for the people in my life.
I now have my own online business Sew Fabulous Fabrics, offering Subscription Boxes to the sewing community and beautiful cotton fabrics which work really well for making garments, home dec, quilting and crafts.

I bought my second machine, a Singer Modern Quilter, a few years ago when I was making quilts, but it has also been used for my bag and purse business, and with the correct needle it will sew almost any fabrics, apart from very weighty ones! What I love about this machine is that it comes with a huge extension table, automatic needle threader and a variety of different feet.

Through my blog I will be sharing finished makes from the patterns which come in my Bigger Box of Fabulous Subscription Box. The first make will be the 241 Tote from Noodlehead, coming soon!
